Ford Excursion w/ V10
I am looking at a Ford Excursion with a V10. What are the pros/cons of the V10? I have a Powerstroke in my F-350 so I know how it will perform. I need as much info on the V10 as I can get.
Now that deseil is $.50 more per gallon and I can't justify the extra cost of the powerstroke. If I get 11mpg in the V10, it will cost the same amount per mile as it would in my powerstroke.

Gas will go back up, diesel will eventually come down a little.
Get the diesel.

V10
I had a 90 F-250 V10 and got upwards of 16mpg driving like an old man. it was 2wd with an extended cab. A little underpowered to pull my 5th wheel.
But just on the highway I liked it fine.

From someone that gets 13 mpg on the highway when gas is $3.00 a gallon.... don't do it! You got the POS... wait, PS Why would you saddle yourself with something like a V10?

My BIL has a V10 Excursion. It's a nice engine, but he says he gets 14mpg on the highway and about 10 mpg in town. If he tows anything it drops down into the single digits pretty quickly.
If you want to drive something that big, I'd stick with the PSD. My F350 PSD CC 4wd gets about 16mpg around town and 21mpg at 70 on the highway. Towing my boat (about 4000lbs) it drops down about 3mpg.

Yikes! And I thought the Chevy 6.0 was bad!
Guess you meant 13?
EDIT: Nevermind, you said it drops down 3 mpg, not drops down TO 3 mpg.

BTW, I am not selling my powerstroke. I am thinking of replacing my wife's suburban with an Excursion. My 99' 1/2ton sub. gets about 11mpg and cannnot pull my 32' travel trailer. My thoughts are to buy a 05' excursion with a V10. the advantages of the V10 as I see it are:1. It can pull the travel trailer. 2. It's $4000 dollars less than the comperable excursion w/ powerstroke. 3. based on today's fuel prices, it cost the same($/mile) to drive my powerstroke s does the suburban and 4. I don't see diesel getting cheaper until we make bio diesel like we are making ethanol.
Am I missing anything?

Sounds like you need a tune-up on the suburban. I get 17-18 on the highway at 75mph and about 14-15 around town. '99 1/2 ton 2wd 5.7
