Shoreline Burning

Can I get some help here? So I am coming out of Port Mansfield saturday morning at daylight and the conditions are near dead calm. I am heading north and I notice about 6 boats running within yards the west shoreline. Why is it necessary to run through good fishing territory just because you have a skinny running boat? I have a shallow running boat and I do use that shoreline when I am heading back in and it is windy. I just cant think of any good reason as to why people think they need to do that. On days like saturday it is just as calm in the gut as it is up by the bank. I am all ears.....

SWT, you probably will not get anyone to tell what their reasoning is for it, but I will tell you last time I was down in PM a friend and I were making a wade toward the shoreline and lo and behold some ya-hoo runs his boat between us and the shoreline, cutting off our wade. I have also experienced a boat that ran between my friend and me while wading another area of PM on the same trip.
Not a whole lot you can do when you are waist deep in water and the people just wave at you like everythings cool.

Is it any wonder why there is little seagrass left? People, we all have a responsibility to at the very least PROTECT our natural resources, if not enhance them. True, many fish will remain unspooked with a boat passing overhead, but what are the other impacts of running full bore in shallow water? Increased shoreline erosion and loss of submerged/ emergent vegetation that the species we seek depend upon. Get a clue, quit being the selfish, egocentric jack@sses that ruin a good thing. If you continue, may you lose many props, and may oyster beds rip your boat thoroughly to a useless piece of junk.

Had the same thing happen to us on that shoreline a couple of weeks ago. We had two boats playing hopscotch and this guy ran through both groups. We were all spread out perpendicular to the shore line, with me being in thigh deep water. As you know, that shoreline gets waist deep quick. He runs in between me and the next guy in line - we were no more than 40 yards apart. Runs up several hundred yards and drops anchor. Went back to retrieve the boat and work a drive-by just to make sure it was real and I wasn't dreaming. As mentioned, slick as glass that day - no excuse and completely unbelievable.

Only time I do it is when it is totally blown out and I am seeking shelter running in. I run out on the edge of the bar so the fish get pushed toward the shore for much easier fishing for those trying to catch them. Seriously I never see anyone fishing when I am running in down there, it is usually pretty late.

I keep on fishing... usually doesn't hurt anything. What else can you do? I've caught fish in the prop wash of boats that have come by.

If it's summer time come back the next day. If it's the winter time come back in about 45 minutes.
