Texasflag4 New Scope

Hey,
I've got a new scope that I'm putting on my 7 Mag. Here's my problem, I put the red Lok-tite on the scope mount screws. The scope never moved on the rifle, but what's the best way to unscrew the screws now?
I was thinking that a little heat on the screw's might help ?

I've mounted many scopes on every thing from 243's to 338 mags and never used lock tite. Why did you do that? Just put them in dry and they don't move. Sorry I dont' have an answer for your question.

I had to use locktite on my scope before I installed a muzzle brake.. but I only used the blue which is light duty I think.. It has never moved again either. I dont know what to use to undo the heavy duty stuff.. which is what I think the red might be.

the red is the heavy duty and heat will break it down. I would use a pencil torch if you have one and be VERY careful.

Agreed. But, be VERY careful. Intense heat ain't gonna do the scope any good.

tap on the screws with a small hammer and screwdriver. Hit very lightly.

Use an electric woodburner iron and touch only the screw head with the burner tip. The sealer should get hot before the rings or base does. Adding heat to those little screws may affect the temper??? Do you have a source for new screws?

Also, for a few bucks, a place that mounts scopes like Marburgers or C County in Houston/Seabrook/Pasadena may be tooled to do this for you. If they charge 20 to 30 bucks, that is still cheaper than new rings and base.

What scope are you removing and what is your upgrade?? What rifle are you shooting?

acetone would break the glue, and the blueing, and the finish on the furniture or just dissolve a synthetic stock. It will also make you blind, crippled, and crazy. What the heck, I'd try it.

Hey,

Thanks for all the replies.I haven't got one of those woodburners so I think I'll try a hot glue gun but without the glue in it to heat the screwheads. And a light tap with a hammer. I think I'll be able to use the rings on the new scope.
I sent in a old Redfield 6x18 that I got from my brother.I found out that the Simmons Company has taken over the Redfield Company. They also have taken over Weaver too. They will send you all the info, and a letter telling you that they can't fix your old scope. But they will sell you a new scope with a big discount. So I sent in the old Redfield and $91.00 and they are sending me a 3x12 wide angle.
Any one have one of these scopes. It's a Redfield but Simmons owns the company. They say it's made in Japan. But the scopes from Janpan have come a long way.
