Initial Engine Break-in Service???

What are the "Usual" items requiring attention/service on a 2 stroke, carbed Merc 150 Saltwater?

This is for the first service which is to take place at 20 hours.

More to come after the responses...

I have a pair of carb'd 150 Mercs (1998) on my boat. I don't remember anything really getting any attention other than making sure the motor is working right. The gear oil probably needs to be changed, grease points hit, and the plugs might need changing if you've been running the double oil treatment for breakin. I have 450 hours on my engines and I've replaced one trim motor, had one starter rebuilt, and replaced plugs every year as well as gear oil; not bad for 8 years of salt water use.

Agreed.

I always changed out the plugs after the double oil run on the 2 strokers.

Gear oil change is just preventitive. Basically to check and see if the seals are holding.

Doesn't hurt to put a wrench or screwdriver on every bolt or screw under the cowling. It is wise to do this on your boat interior/exterior every couple of trips or when you come back in from a rough water day.

Coating of Corrosion X on exterior motor metals and wipe down can help later down the road too.

Good luck,

GCB
