Sight casting to flounder?

I don't mean to accuse anybody of any wrong doing, because as far as I can tell it wouldn't be against the rules. But all these flounder posts have got my curiousity aroused, and I'm wondering if any of the big flounder entered in the Star Tournament this year could have been caught at night while floundering? I don't mean they were gigged. I mean what's to stop a person from dropping a live bait in front of a big flounder. If you think about it, it's really the only fish you can go window shopping for. Is there a rule against it?

That is thinking outside the box! I don't know what the leader is but I once gigged a 8.3 behind Rollover Pass. Probably could have fed him a minnow! You may have opened a can of worms.

Many years ago, I ran into some very ingenious youngsters floundering at night with a Coleman lantern and a short stiff cane pole with a hook, line and shrimp. They were snatching flounder off the bottom of a muddy lake in Louisiana. I asked them why they didn't just gig the flounder and they explained that the flounder would fan the bottom and muddy the water when they were gigged. But when they used their method, they could jerk them off the bottom and have them in the wash tub they had in tow, before they had a chance to muddy the area. I don't know where they learned it, but I was impressed.

The last time I checked, the leader here in Texas was 9 lbs 10 ozs. That's going to be hard to beat using dynamite!
