Looking for a new vehicle.... who do you trust??

IN the market for another vehicle.(HOuston area) Rather have my eyes scratched out with a dull ice pick than to put up with all the tricks of the dealerships. Haven't really narrowed down what we're looking for, something like a SUV or large cars. Questions are who do you trust to be the most honest and who do you recomend on the better prices. Brand is open at this point as well. Also what have you bought recently that you recomend I stay away from?
Let's hear some input

I have 100k on my expedition eddie bauer with no probs and I love it. If I had another chance I would probably get a tahoe/yukon cause of the smoother ride they have and superior gas mileage. I would not be able to tow the boat though, its over 6k and chevies just dont get it done. I can say that because I had a z71 before my expy and that is why I got rid of it. Next vehicle will be a diesel quadcab of some sort. I dont know houston dealers but look around and get the best deal. Dont be affraid to get up and walk off. They say they spent all that time. So did you and it is not their 30k they are spending. Scr--- them!

Send a PM to wishin4fishin (Scott). If he doesn't have what you want at his store, he'll be able to hook you up with someone that does and he'll definitely treat you right.

Don't "trust" any one. Arm yourself with information first. When you are talking with salesmen, don't take any bull, don't back down and STAND YOUR GROUND. There is no such thing as a "deal you just can't do with out". Never show uncertainty or doubt. When you speak, speak with confidence. He is watching you for signs of weakness. Be aware of and put a stop to any "hustle" before it gets too far. They are trained to "control the negotations" Don't let 'em, YOU control the negotiations. It is the only way you will come out on top. I mean it. One tactic is to ask you a series (7) questions which they know you can answer yes. The psychology is that once they get you used to saying yes, when they get to the point where they try to get you to commit, then you will be more likely to say yes. Be careful. Some of these guys are GOOOOD at what they do. It will be your responsibility to protect yourself.

The old saying, "Knowledge is Power", is never more true than when you are buying a car. Knowing what you want and what you are talking about is the key to getting a good deal. That and being stubborn, of course.

Good luck and let us know what you come up with.

You can do what Jack says or you can just PM Scott. He's at Champion Lincoln Mercury on 290. He definitely hooked me up.

If it's a Dodge you are looking for, go see David Daniels at Allen Samuels. He's right across 610 from the Dome. Tell him you're from 2 coolfishing and he'll treat you like a friend....

I had good success with www.gmbuypower.com. You can look for the exact vehicle you want at the dealerships you want. After finding the vehicle(s) you like, you can request a quote, who will then reply back to the e-mail you provided. I bought my GMC from Beck & Masten and was quoted for a price that was just a couple hundred dollars over what they said they paid for it. Seemed like a good deal for me. Sticker was right at $26,000 and paid right at $21k for it. And I was pleasantly surprised that they seemed to be pretty up to date with the vehicles on the web vs. what was on the lot. I found the experience to be much less painful than driving to each dealership and browsing the lot, getting hassled by a salesman, etc.

I will offer one word of advice if you decide to get a GMC truck, though. If you get a regular cab truck, make sure the sunshell in the transmission has been updated, or get the extended warranty. I had the problem when it was under warranty and was fixed for free. Then, I had the exact same problem at 46,000 miles (only 36,000 mile warranty, which is rediculous these days) and it wasn't covered. Wound up replacing the transmission with a factory rebuilt one. I tried to fight it, but got nowhere. Apparently, the regular cab has a different tranny than the extended cabs and has a sunshell that keeps breaking. I think they fixed it with the rebuilt one. At least I hope so.

I sold cars for a long time .. Remember they are not all bad ... I would most definately make the decision about what you wanted , before I would even allow any negotiation ... Narrow it down to a few vehicles .. Go drive look and compare all the vehicles .. Once you decide what you want .. Find out what the invoice amount is on it and work from there -- Not from the sticker ... If you need any help -- drop me a line ... Just dont let any of them suck you in the door to talk numbers until you look at all the vehicles thoroughly(sp?) On your list ..

Chevrolet

Hey Outlaw,
If you're in the market for a chevy, give Sonny Dannhaus (dan house) a call. He's sales manager for Tegeler Chevrolet in Industry, TX. (979) 357-2575. Tell him Quentin Means sent you. I've bought my last three pickups from him. I called and drove everywhere from Austin to Houston for the first two, and his price couldn't be beat. I don't even shop anymore. He's always taken care of me!

Good Luck......Q
