Thursday report
Punched out the pass and ran off to the east about a mile before daylight. Shutdown and started drifting among the rips. Had one strike on dead bait; fish didn't get hooked. Around 7:30, had another good bite and got a large shark within 20' of the boat before the leader (mono) busted. No bait around, no sign of live at all.
Ran further offshore and east to about 45' after 09:00. Shut down and drifted with one small school of pogies. Got cut off once (dead bait).
Came back to the pass and fished the outside from 11:00-13:00. One mackerel on a topwater.
Very weird day. The weather must have had the fish spooked. There was no bait around and the birds weren't even trying.
Will try again this afternoon or manana.
