The reason Im asking is, I live within a stones throw of a mall that is half emtpy and has acres of unused smooth and sealed asphault. Im wondering how hard it would be to get permission to set up a temporary course on Sundays. Insurance, libility etc.

Yeah, the parking lot stuff is in front of (well, off to the side actually) of the local Hobby Town. There is also another lhs out south (Austin Hobbies) that runs in their parking lot as well.
We used to run at a mall (down the road from the actual shop), and had great success there until they made us move to a part of the lot that noone could see from the road that is). I think all you have to do is get with the mall management and see if they would have any problem with you running there or not.

Thanks bro. I allready found some contact info. The racing shedules is so wacked out here its beyond belief. I just want to have a place to run my car on Sunday mornings without driving over an hour to get there. Doesnt really matter if its only 4-5 guys with entry level HPIs or something.
And, I think it would open up another way to get more guys into the hobby. The majority of traffic on this forum isnt from the members here. Its from lurkers from other sites but mostly from the fishing guys right here. Heck, we just recently got 5 or 6 new guys this year alone from the fishing guys reading whats going on down here.

Very cool. If you can, try and get either close to the mall itself, or all they way out close to a major road if possible. You'd be amazed how many people will make huge u-turns to come back and watch if they can actually see them.

Im leaning towards having a clean smooth area with plenty of room rather than something the world can see.
