paddled about 200yards into the Laguna Madre with the kiddo for less than hour..we cast net about 10 finger mullet on the way out..
we caught a nice little trout and lost a few more she landed a few hard heads, and my daughter lost her favorite fish, a ladyfish it was huge and went absolutely crazy..
we were on the last mullet, i had a 1inch pinfish in the live well so i put it on, my daughter didn't want me to use it as bait, she wanted to release it like we did last time..it was out for about 5minutes under a DOA rattle cork when the rod lays over and pulls drag..i give it to the kiddo strait away it put up a good fight for her..landed her first red drum in the bay.. didn't measure it, it may have been legal if not it was close..we where just out there for fun anyway..my daughter got upset when she realized i used the pinfish, i asked her if she cared that i use them on the pier..she said no she just likes the baby ones..we pulled up the anchor and headed in, i tried to make it up to her by letting her swim on the little beach at the canal mouth..first thing she told her mom when we got back to the house was how i used the baby pinfish as bait, i knew it would get eaten by a red..another fun day on the water
