It will end up costing you about $60 for a new one. My buddy had to do the same two days ago and i doubt the tax office will be sensitive to your situation. When he came out to the truck he was upset because he thought he could get a replacement for about $8 but the lady got snippy and said it would "take up too much space on her computer to just give him another one". Just another way for them to take $52 out of a persons pocket. After he paid the fee she still had to input information and print out a two page reciept...pretty ridiculous
Smackdaddy is correct. Ive heard cheaper replacements but nobody i know has been lucky to avoid the full cost. If you have a plastic holder you need to ditch it. Get 2 of the metal ones and just stack them on each other to make it 2 ply. If you have access to welding equipment just a few welds to the plate and trailer and its not coming off easy enough for a thief. If no welder still 2 ply the bracket but get some lock nylon nuts and get a bolt in the specialty bolt section at lowes or auto parts store and get a bolt with a torx or uncommon head. It also helps to make sure you get something in metric and make sure the threads are just long enough for what you need and cut any extra after tight. These wierd sizes and extra firm bracket make it harder to rip off and needs specific tools to get undone. Sad thing is it will just make them skip yours and just steal the one next to you. Hopefully they will just try to twist and break it and the extra 2 ply bracket will give enough resistant to cut their hands.ha
Hate a thief.
Every time mine has been stolen all I did was take lic # and or sheet that came with (lic rec) to court house and give them $5.. and they gave me a new one .Its been a few years so may cost more. I had 4 + stolen over a 2Y period (lady at C H would say you again). The way I stopped it was mount my Lic Plate on Transom of boat (so when I unloaded boat and went fishing plate went with ME..Never lost one since...cva34
So if You see a Boatright with a lic plate ITS ME!!
Some ***** did the same thing to me about a week after i got new plates at the boat launch, I guess i was lucky it only cost $8 but the standing in line was a real pain in the butt.
My buddy had his plates stolen at the same place i did last week. I guess they just walk up and rip the plastic holder and walk off. Well i can tell you they will have one hell of a time getting my new plates sice I changed them out for double metal plates and scared up the bolts so they done come off.
