Jet powered kayak

These things look pretty cool. http://www.surfango.com/hawaii.shtml. They look to go pretty shallow and can be paddled like a regular kayak to get to some of those hard to get to areas.

EJ did an article on them about a year or 2 ago.. would be a fun ride and very versatile for just about anywhere. The added ability to actually move and also give stealthy fishing ability to stalk reds is a nice combo.

I can tell you firsthand - the Surfango is a genuine hoot to drive and fish from.

I think it was mid-summer 2009. Scott Null and I were in loaner boats from the Surfango rep, left Charlie's Bait Camp on the ICW and drove all the way to Power Lake on Matagorda Island, fished for a while, then ran the marsh east through Fifth Lake and Contee, came back out into Espiritu Santo four hours later. We met Pam and the rep guy on her Majek for lunch and re-fueled, then crossed back through First Chain of Islands to avoid bay chop and ran Shoalwater Bay all the way back to Charlie's.

Caught some nice fish and enjoyed the heck out of the boat. Re-fuel was not strictly necessary, just wanted to be sure. It cruised very nicely in about a foot of water. We didn't want to tear anything up on the demo boats so we didn't try to run super shallow.

EJ,
About what was your total miles or hours on the first tank full?

On the other hand ... it's very difficult to launch like a kayak (basically you can launch a kayak anywhere) and you're more likely going to launch it like a jetski or boat. It's purely for the flats and you don't really want any waves at all. There is really no place to store fish. Replacement parts are specialty parts and you may have to wait for them to arrive from Europe.

Not sure spare parts availabilty but I'd guess a phone call would provide the answer. The main outfit was in Florida if remember correctly.

As for fuel consumption we probaly burned close to a tankful in about three hours operation. I'd guess we covered in neighborhood 25 miles. When exploring and joy riding the marsh you do not run straight lines.

Launching is no big deal. Launch any place you launch any other kayak. Tad too heavy for average guy to handle solo though. You'd need a kayak dolly for sure.

You could easily strap on a small ice chest for food, drinks, fish, etc. I usually run pretty light anyway when paddle fishing.

2 Surfango Jet Kayaks for Sale

Hello, I am the Surfango "Rep" referenced in this thread.

I have 2 good used Surfangos Hawaii GT's for sale.

I recently bought a boat.........and have other kayaks..........so these need to go to a new home!

The older one is blue and I have just rebuilt the engine - new crank, rod, bearings, upgraded cylinder kit (175cc vs. stock 150cc), new style ignition.

The newer one is actually an Aquanami kayak - upgraded Surfango - it is basically the same with some minor hull shape changes. Upgraded 175cc engine as well. This one is yellow.

I am throwing out bottom line prices here to move them quick.

$2500 for the older blue Surfango

$3000 for the newer yellow Aquanami

I have a ton of spare parts for these..........and also can order new parts direct from factory. I have been dealing with these units for about 4 years now........and know them inside and out.

Thanks,
Robby
