Keeping Tackle Rust Free and Storing LEaders

Alright I am getting rid of my old tackle box and going to the clear boxes. My biggest problem has been all my tackle getting rusty. I probably threw away 50 dollars worth of rusted stuff today.

Also how are yall storing leaders so they don;t get all over the place? I have a few ways that I use baggies and such but just wondering what yall do.

Fishin Guy, can't help you on the rusty stuff other than to suggest changing hooks on lures to a quality hook such as VMC's, they seem to deter rust longer than any of the others I have used.

As far as storing leaders try these bags, they come in several sizes and they are cheap, small, and pack good in a small space. You can put one or more to a bag (less is better) and you have a neat untangled leader when you need it. This site has many other things you might find you need. Good luck! Gater

rinse and soak w fresh water...dry everything well!

then i pump of few squirts of "reel magic" over all...usually do this right before I take apart my reels for their cleaning.

Keep a 5 gal bucket of fresh water in your boat... throw the plugs in there instead of on the console... at the end of the trip dump the water an let them dry. Then when you get back just put them back into your box.

Alright I ordered some bags. I think I am also going to try and bring less tackle to the gulf. Also I am going to start keeping my tackle inside the house.

I store my leaders in the little plastic boxes rat-l-traps come in. Works perfect for me.

I've been doing this and it has helped. My main problem is my wading box since it gets the most salty exposure. I'm thinking about getting a vest or something where I can keep my gear up out of the water better. I currently use a wading belt.

Killer Solution to Rust

I can't help much on the leaders but...

A few years ago, my wife roped me into stopping at the Container Store so she could shop. While there I noticed they had the same storage boxes I use to store artificial baits and hooks on my boat. I also noticed they had rust inhibiting storage dividers. Not only are the dividers standard sizes, the storage boxes are the same exact boxes I had been buying at a premium at my local tackle outlets.

Long story short, the rust inhibitor dividers work like a charm! You can buy them online and just replace the dividers you already have in your storage boxes. I don't carry a box when I wade so I can't tell you how well they work when submerged. I can tell you I haven't lost so much as a single hook to rust on the boat.

Good luck!
