Texas Coastal Kayak - Cooler water temps has fish on the move...
Greetings Fisherman,
Fishing the West Galveston Bay South Shoreline is a favorite kayak fishing area this time of year for many fishermen on the upper Texas coast. As we Texans have witnessed over the past few weeks, the summer storms have brought unpredictable winds, and huge amounts of rain. As a result, our water temps have dropped into the high 70’s and put baitfish and predatory species on the move as the moderate temperatures have energized the bay system.
Earlier in the week while dodging storms, we launched our kayaks into one of the protected coves on the West Bay shoreline. We easily limited on Reds within a few hours using soft plastic swim shads (see nice photo of Red beauties below). A friend was also fishing the same area last weekend with top waters and caught a limit of Trout with one going close to 7lbs.
We are planning multiple fishing excursions over the next few weeks with the anticipation of similar weather/water conditions, which should bring similar great results. We hope to see you on the water!
