surf question

May be a stupid question, but today I took the kayak to the surf and went out a couple hundred yards and there were fish topping everywhere around me, I threw all the arties I had at them with no luck, anyone might know what they were?

Man eating mullet... There are a lot of mullet, smacks and tons of small bait fish out there right now.

Probable small Blue fish. If you got a hit on a tout tail and reeled just a stump of a tout it was a pretty positive sign that they were small blue fish.

Could be Bluefish, and small hardheads also. Just think of what might be under them running them up to the surface. Chunk a Silver Spoon out there and see what happens.
