reel cleaning at Fishing Tackle Unlimited
I dropped off my reel at fishing tackle unlimited to get cleaned. While there i saw 2 milk crates inside their cleaning booth room that were full of reels. I mean both crates were overflowing with reels! Does anyone know if this is how FTU stores its customers reels??? (i know, i should have asked while i was there but didn't)
Im kind of ocd about keeping my hunting/fishing gear in excellent shape both mechanically and cosmetically. I hope they didn’t just throw my reel into that pile to get scratched up

If that's true, seems like a pretty terrible logistics system & terrible service all around.

No, no, no, no, no!!!
C'mon, that is not how they run their business! I just spent an hour with Joey, the reel maintenance manager, during which time I was behind the counter for a while. The upcoming jobs are stored in individual bins, not a freaking crate. You probably saw the junkers. Like any maintenance operation, there are plenty of hopeless cases, and you saw the triage crates...
This is a great example of how urban legends are created. Anyone doing a search of FTU's reel maintenance history will get a hit on this thread. Other than their backlog, they deserve better. They run a tight ship, and are closely connected with Shimano California. No worries.

Joey and the guys in the repair center do a great job and have a simple system at the shop. I can attest that they handle each individual reel with care and don't just throw reels around the shop, really? Not trying to bash here, but this is how unfair judgements get blown into senseless rumors.
Like the poster said above, your reel is tagged and put in an individual bin. No reels are mixed together or just thrown amongst others. Your reel will stay in an individual bin throughout the time of service and placed in an individual bag when completed. Tons of volume go through that shop and Joey knows his S%^t, he has been in the business for many years, and takes pride in his work.

When you do first rate work and a whole lot of it, it takes awhile. If you plan ahead, waiting shouldn't be that big of a deal. I/J/S
