Sabiki rigs on piers in Texas

We just got back from florida and while fishing the pier there we used a sabiki to catch bait on the pier. I must say that my wife loved fishing with the sabaki. She caught numerous fish and plenty of variety. She got some spanish mackerel, cigar minnows, some jack looking thing, a ramora, and a few others. I was wondering if it was effective because of the clear water or if it would work here on the Texas coast as well.

In the surf, it works at times - even if you have to tip the hooks with a little shrimp.

They are used extensively on Bob HaLL Pier for catching tarpon and kingfish bait. I have used them with success on the piers in Galveston and the surf when the water is good.
