i feel like I've been in a tornado these last few weeks. i don't know if im coming or going! up at 4:15 am, on the water until around 3:00 most of the time, home at 6:00, in bed by 10, and then do it all over again!
Fishing, as has been the case most of this year for me, has been TOUGH! as i previously mentioned, there are a few reds to be caught and usually a fair number of trout, however, over all every charter has been grind, grind, grind!! I dont like grind! LOL
with a full moon almost at full force over night, higher than normal water levels, and 20-25 mph winds, i fully expected a low catch day. but what the heck do i know.
as morning dawned, we left the Casa Arroyo dock with ice filled ice chests, an array of TTF lures, and loaded with anticipation. first stop behind bird island was fair. a couple of trout and a red fell into the chilly ice box. i made a couple of drifts around here and the bite eventual faded. a few stops here and there yielded nothing. I moved around looking for fishy waters and finally came to THE place. well maybe not so much THE place, but the place where within a 30 minute drift, we lnded 3 reds and 4 trout (24", 22", 21", and 19")
for those 30 minutes, the action was really good including some fish that got away. don't what happened, however, then next drift yielded nothing.
called it a day a little before noon with 6 nice trout and 4 reds in the box. Today the Who Dat and Morning Glory hackberry hustlers were golden.
** the 3 smaller trout on the left are the trout the other boat caught. Not a good day for that captain. :-/
