Over the weekend the winds laid and fish filled the cooler. With TS Deddie out in the Gulf and the weather uncertain, the guys pulled out of the Blue Water Offshore tourney and fished the bay instead. The storm had higher than normal tides pushing water into the bay all weekend and it resulted in some of the best drift fishing that we have had all year. Saturday, Nick put Toby, Cade and Cason on a good mess of trout while drifting with shrimp. The goal was to let the boys catch all the fish and that they did. By 10am they had put together a good little box of fish and could of had more if so many of them wouldn't have shook off right at the boat. It was a great trip for the boys and they learned a lot. I'd imagine the next time they come the box will have even more fish in it when they are ready to head in. Sunday, Nick had the Barrett Bates group from IDE and they returned to the same area of scattered shell where he found them the day before. It wasn't long before rods were bent and fish were hitting the ice. By noon the group had put together a solid box of fish and headed in. The group was staying at Sunrise Lodge there on the river. If you didn't already know, about a month ago they added a cabana and outdoor bar to the facility and it really took it over the top.
Monday found Nick out in the same area hammering them once again. Todd Armstrong and Randy were on board today and it didn't take them long to pop 20 trout and get heading in. Tuesday was the first day in about a week that Nick was back in the water. He was helping Gene out with a donated trip with the goal of getting some more great footage on the GoPro camera. It didn't take them long to get the duo on fish and they ended the day with another solid box. The last four days have been awesome to say the least and as long as the winds are not howling, drifting or wading will stay on fire. Once the winds pick up, wading will more than likely be the ticket to success, but we'll see as the summer continues.
