Good luck . The job may not be cold and nasty but the weather is tough in North Dakota. You are lucky to get an office job.
There is a ton of work in NoDak and the people are really nice. Fishing is good too. I have worked a bit around Beulah and Hazen in the coal mines but was never there in the dead of winter. Did not want to be either. It sounds like you have the right frame of mind to make the most out of it. Congratulations.

Yep and I have been working too. I usually run with the same companies and the same crew. We're just in a lull now and the next job was starting mid July up in Borger Texas.

I needed to mention that I am getting older too. Those tools aren't as light as they used to be. I got in this game late in my life is why I am still on my tools and not in a foreman or GF position.

Living way out in Polk county doesn't help. There are a lot of jobs as you say, but a lot don't pay perdiem to help in the housing arrangements. It would be a lot easier to justify if I lived closer to the Golden Triangle.

I've made a decent living doing what I have done, but haven't stopped trying to do better. It's all coming together now and if it gets bad, I'll sure have something worse to reflect back on.

The turnaround and shutdown circuit is a younger man/womans game. I'll leave it up to them now and go my own way.

no more depression and dread.

happy times are here again!
The uncontained excitement in my wife as I told her today was worth everything. She said,"baby, we can finally breath again".

No sir, this place is bought and paid for. This is paradise to me. I'll just be working up there on rotation. Once I'm settled in, it'll be 6 weeks on and 2 weeks off. I spent 4 years in the military, so being away isn't too bad on me. Kim and I are really tight and she has the support of a good church family if things get too bad. I think we'll be just fine.

Well, good luck in your endeavors sir. I hated being away from baby girl for just a week on my first and only out of town job last year.
