Leaving Fish On Ice

I went fishing yesterday and boxed some trout. When I got home I was too tired to clean them. They were on plenty of ice overnight and my question is, will not cleaning fish and leaving them whole on ice over night booger up the fillets?

We gut/gill before putting on ice, and fillet in the next day or 2...just seems to taste better to me.

Colder you can keep them actually helps when cleaning. Easier to fillet. You will be fine

less salty??
if i had to leave higher quality fish (tuna or snapper) overnight, i'll either drain the water or place them in plastic bag submerged in ice slurry. unless u're eating eating raw fish .. u wont be able to tell the difference in trout

prefer to open the drain packed with ice to prevent mushiness. I find myself too tired to filet too at times.

We leave trout on ice for 2 days uncleaned. Never had any complaints when it was time to eat them. Just make sure they are covered with ice.

Tilt box and drain...don't let the fish lay submerged in the melt and you'll be fine for a day. Leaving ice chest in the shade will help too.I usually dump the ice on then lay the empty bag on top and pack around. I've seen where some take a wet towel and do this.... helps save the ice.
Hint: When you notice the flies hanging around the box...you've waited too long!
