Rod tip snap!

I recently purchased a new custom rod for myself for the 1st time in 50 years! I was so stoked about it a thing of beauty! Well on just the 2nd outing while wading on the 5th cast I reeled in and raised my rod to the 12:00 position to re-align my tount onto the jig head when all of a sudden SNAP!!!!!!! ***! I could not nor did not want to believe what happened. I did not have the rod under stress or unneccesary stress but when I closely inspected where it snapped at the 2nd guide from the tip there were no indication of nicks or damage other than a frizzled fiber snap!!! Have any of you ever had this similiar thing happen to ya'll? Needless to say tried to make the most of my fishing trip and continued fishing but , well you know, I was heart broken and dejected I was just sick. What could have caused this and could this have been something with the blank itself/ Thanks...

Yes, but don't know why. Mine was a Castaway and they made good on it after some discussion.

Rods?

Well I feel alittle better knowing that my custom is among several other brands that have had these issues. I don't mean to say that ya'lls misfortune makes me feel better cause that's not what I meant just that it's just part of buying and using product's that obviously are'nt bullet proof. I will say that I don't know why it had to happen with something I invested so much in and intended to go into building and having lot's of good memories with. Oh well back to my good store bought ol faithfuls that have already proven themselves trustworthy, hopefuly they don't hold a grudge and forgive me lol!

What you did when you had the rod at the 12:00 position is called High Sticking. If you would have held your rod at a 45 degree angle your rod would not have broke.

At the 12:00 position when pulling down on your line you rolled the tip down and it snapped. At that angle the whole rod wasn't able to bend, just the tip and when the tip couldn't bend any further it snapped. The rod wasn't defective. The way the rod was held when retying is why it broke.

Actually that's not correct although i do understand what you mean and appreciate your response to my request , thank you for that. I did state that I raised the rod tip to 12:00 only in a since that it was part of motion to get the rod to swing the lure to my hand while in the same motion tuck the rod butt under my arm to make the adjustment on said lure. I have been making this move for a number of years to point it's second nature and certainly not anything I havent done with my other rods hundreds of times. I truely feel confident in my handling of my fishing rods while wading I just thought it strange it happened when I felt no undue stress or load to the rod....

It sounds more like a defective blank than anything. I'm awfully hard on my fishing gear, and have yet to break one that way. I've damaged many many many (too many) guides, but not broken a rod like that.

Yea, that's kinda what I was thinking. I've had numerous rods during the course of many years fishing and this is the 1st time I've had a rod break like that on me. I've not disclosed the builder of said custom rod as of yet since I've sent it back recently to see what may have happened in his evaluation. Thanks for all the imput and thought's.Tight lines to ya'll....

i hate it when that happens then the rod-maker blames the user and just puts a new tip at the end of the broken blank. gone away from couple brands because of this. high sticking or not it shouldnt break. my other rods dont have this problem.
