Flounder Patterns?

What's the When and Where about Flounder Patterns, Locations, and Habitat?

What's the yearly/general seasonal pattern?

What habitat and tide combination has yielded success for you?

Share your flounder knowledge i.e. experience...

I have noticed this year has been kind of slow. From what i hear it has picked up though. Patterns last year were pretty consistant where i fished. Incoming tide was always good. When it turned slack everything stopped moving. Usually focused on good sand flats and moved to high bluffs late in the season. Early on they were full of glass minnows but i dont know what the feeding patters are like now because i have been so busy with work that i havent gone since the 19th of march. Locations......well im not gonna give that away.

For catching them and not gigging find a marsh drain on an outgoing tide and throw shrimp imitations and pretty much any soft plastic tail all around the mouth and hop and drag it slowly. When you feel the sharp thump dont set the hook right away, let it get the bait in its mouth. More times than not itll come off its resting spot to grab the lure then settle back down and swallow it. Sometimes they just inhale it right away. Theres definitely many thoughts and opinions on the correct way to catch them but this works for me. You dont have to fish around a drain but they seem to be more concentrated in those areas on a falling tide. If you catch one more than likely there are a few more in the area so keep working the shoreline in a fan pattern. Wheres captain dave when you need a flounder catching expert?

I believe this is the third year of the flounder reduced limits. I can tell for a fact an increase number of flounders in the marshes. This coming fall flounder run should be fantastic. I am already looking forward to it. For those of you who don't catch many flounder - they are the most fun bay species to catch. Fishing teaches you patience. I can cast for 2 hours and not a bite. Then suddenly wham - you caught a trophy. I hope to go in the morning

On the Macro level, they move to to the ocean in the fall from the bays to spawn. This is why in November, SeaWolf and Boliver are prime spots. Then they move back to the bays in the spring.
