Copano can turn real bad real fast sometimes. Been on it in dead calm and fog one minute then blowing 40 out of the northeast with 3 ft chop the next. Weird!

I probably had my worst boat ride ever coming across Copano and then Aransas to get back to Kontiki one day, one of those summertime squalls caught us, lucky we were in a big Hydrasport, i remember the prop coming out of the water whenever we hit the waves head on.

Went out this morning and tried a few reefs, wind was light out of the ESE about 10-15. Saw no bait only caught a couple of gaff top. Moved to a gas well, then wind started picking up fast out of ENE. It also got darker, started heading in wind was 20 to 30 and gusting waves were about 2 1/2' to 3'. It was rough, didn't get rained on but got drenched by the spray. The wind picked up quick and out of known where, anybody on here get caught in that.

We didn't get caught in it, we got down there late so actually went out in it. Like going on a water ride at the theme park, drenched. LOL... Sunday morn was nice though.

me too, except we were 16 and were in a 15ft tri-hull Invader. Turtle Pens to the Copano ramp, roughest, most crazy boat ride EVER.
we were thinking about fishing copano but instead fished mesquite bay this weekend. caught some decent trout shallow, but i saw more boats in that bay than i ever have. this summer should be interesting...

Did you see the idiot running around out there in the black Carolina Skiff?
That was me ^^
We've never been in that area before, our first trip to Mesquite Bay. I didn't see many boats though, not compared to Port O'Connor or Rockport area, but then I was probably in the wrong place where everyone already knows there are no fish.

i didn't see you, but i did run a little too shallow to let down, so if anyone saw me blowing mud, sorry!
wish i hadn't put the boat away on saturday, when we woke up sunday morning, the water was perfect till noon and we saw very few boats heading out, would've made for a great chance to hit some smooth water for top waters.

Yeah it was waaay better on Sunday morning. We put in at Goose Island, ramp is a bit busy but once we headed out we didn't see but a few boats here and there. Being my first time in the area we just ran to some reefs on the map and did some scouting. Those shallow oyster reefs are spooky and I've got a few new scratches on the boat now. Found lots of bait scouting, mullet everywhere on some of the shorelines, managed some undersized stuff and one "keeper" for the box. I tried to release it but had my 12 year old with me and he didn't let it happen. I should have made him clean it but I wanted good fillets. Hopefully we'll do better next time. On Sunday morning there were some guys who'd been out fishing the full moon all night (saw them heading out on Saturday) and they did quite well.
EDIT: Game Wardens were running a Tran Cat on Sunday pulling boats over. They inspected me, checked for registration and throwable PFD. That was the first time I've ever been asked for my reg card which I had, but I did not have a throwable as we always wear our vests while underway so never saw the point of having a throwable taking up space. They wrote me a warning for the throwable so I guess I'll head out and pick one up for next trip.

Full Moon Phase. Either super early or latest morning hours and on. The time you fished can be really tough with a big moon.

Maybe you should try fishing more than a hundred yards from the house sometime.
