Texasflag4 Operation Rod Mod

I've been shopping for a new lure casting rod lately and when I picked up the Abu-Garcia Veritas Winch I really liked the action (Med) and weight, but I did not like the handle length. So I went ahead and bought one with this slight modification in mind. Now it's not perfect by any means, I'm no rod builder, but I think it will work just fine. The whole rig weighs less than 3/4 lb (reel and all).
1. Before
2. removed 3" - no going back now
3. Checking balance
4. Adding counter weight (1/2 oz)
5. There that's better (balanced) - time to epoxy
6. After
7. Ready to fish

Yeah that handle was long. On most of the rods I build I like the reel seat to start around the 8 inch mark. Great job!

Thanks for the comments. I'm going to try it out this afternoon. People have said this was meant to be a bass rod. Why would bass fishermen want a long handle like that? It was getting in my way before I cut it.

I might do a little research on thread wrapping and try to replace the wrap I cut off near the butt cap......maybe.
