ULM water looking much better

With the brown tide and all the wind last week, I've been doing most of my fishing further north around Shamrock and Aransas Pass. Well this morning the wind finally let up a bit so I thought I'd try the ULM. Water is still pretty brown here in the Padre Isles canals, but once I got to the ICW it looked much better. It wasn't the usual gin clear color, but definately more of a green tint and better than it's looked in the last few weeks.

Hit a couple of my favorite spots and nada. Then pulled up to spot #3 and spooked a nice red while idling in. Got out of the boat and hooked a mid slot red on the third cast. Ended up with 5 mid to upper slot reds plus 1 oversized. Also missed 4 others that shook the hook. Saw numerous mud boils and lots of small shrimp flipping on top of the water. I was actually able to see my feet while wading for the first time in a few weeks. Kept 2 and released the rest. Fish were in knee deep water and the 2 I kept were full of small shrimp about 1 inch long.

Hope the water continues to clear.

Yeah I could actually see some potholes in the shallower areas.

That's good to hear. Fished nighthawk saturday and it was still nasty. A few parts were looking to clear up but still not the gin clear we normally see this time of year

Ulm/baffin

Glad to hear that water is looking a little better up on the North end. I live on the West end of Baffin and it has been terrible for weeks. Seems like the bloom is thicker in Baffin and Alazan than anywhere else. wos

Yeah I heard it was pretty bad up in Baffin and Alazan and then clear south of there from Rocky Slough south through the Land Cut. The TPW biologists say they don't know what causes it or what makes it go away. I guess Mom Nature is the only one that knows, but it's looking better up our way. Hope it gets better down your way.
