Nope...they can't. I've completely liquidated the baitcasters at my house; all I throw is spinning and fly. All this talk about "keeping a spinning reel on the boat for the rookies and women" is complete b u l l poop. There's not much better in life than catching a big fish on light line and equipment. I no longer winch fish to me with 30# PP. I won't even let a guy with a baitcaster on my boat...I don't have time to wait for them to cover water!

So, yeah, we mo' betta' feechers!!!!

I've always used a spinning reel because of this but I hear so much about different types of Shimanos, AbuGarcia Revos, Daiwas, etc that I'm interested in purchasing one. What is a novice-friendly baitcast reel? My budget is less than $200.

Thanks in advance.
Try out the Abu Garcia 4600. It has a narrow spool that seems to help with the backlash problem. Of course throwing against the wind creates a challenge but in time you will get the feel for just the right thumb use and it will become second nature. Once you gain confidence, you will never go back to spinning.
