Be sure to click on the black/white "Z"s on offshore of the keys to pull up the new 3d contour charts that are designed to navigate upon with your iPad or other smart device.

Let me know if I can help.

All the best,

The only area I'm familiar with is Key West, not sure where you're going. Fished the wall yesterday and caught a daytime sword and had a lit up blue tail down the face of a wave right under our boat while day timing. Couldn't get a bait to him in time. If you're in the lower keys the wall is the place for trolling for mahi and marlin, especially from now through June. Check the gulf stream reports, and if it is running inside the wall then focus on the area just inside the wall where you'll often see some kindof current upwelling or rip.

The key west harbor tarpon bite is hot in may and June, early morning and late evenings best. For bottom fishing the further west you head the better to get away from the crowds.

Thanks for the info, It so happens that one of the first days out i was thinking key west area. I will be in islamorada and want to take a day to head in every direction. Tarpon are definately on my list i am also taking my flats boat. This wall you speak of i assume is the shelf? I have been playing with the hilton maps for the keys areas and intend on digging deeper into them after i arrive and begin setting a game plan.

Tom,

I finally pieced it all together with how that works I must be a little slow.

You simply find the break mark the points along the way and follow the yellow brick road. That is pretty helpful to throw it on an overlay for the topography. If i set a route like that will all maps i go to will overlay that route, ie altimetry, currents, etc?

Thanks again

Typically if the altimetry shows that area to be counter productive so to speak such as in the case in that south of key west area where it is a light downwelling as opposed to east out of islamorada should focus more on that rip (temp and current) or the upwelling showing signs of life? Is it a have to be there to find out which is better on which day kind of thing meaning that both hold potential so go with what feels better that day?
