Rockport Fishing Areas

Going to Rockport this weekend with some friends to fish around that area with their family.
Not looking for secret spots or anything, but could someone point me in the direction of some decent wading spots for me and two saltwater newbies that are accessible with 2wd? Unfortunately we wont have a boat/kayak or anything. Bought a hook and line map but I've never even been to the town in my life so I still feel like I'm still waltzing in blind. Hoping the chance of rain and strong winds wont increase.
Thanks all in advance and tight lines.

Look on your map and find 361 to Port Aransas from Aransas Pass. On your right heading East there are several wade in spots, but they get pretty busy on the weekends. If you don't want to go that far (15 or 20 min), then you could just wade Little Bay. I've seen some nice fish pulled out of there.

A kayak would do wonders for expanding the fishing possibilities in that area.

See, I have a kayak but I'm hitching a ride in someone else's car so I can't bring it. Lol. It's kinda frustrating. It'd be fun just to paddle around and explore a new area. Oh well.
Thanks for the tip! Ill definitely check those spots out.

I wade a LOT - well until I get my new boat - LOL !!!

j/k there willalways be time to do some wading.

Right now you might try driving ver to the Portland shoreline by Indian Point Pier.

Just park and start wading out on the north side of the pier.

There are 3 guts that run parrallel to the bank - walk out and ~ 1/3 way of the waythe guts start, fish the first one before goingto the 2nd one.

It may be windy and you'llhave to cast in he wind so use a heavy cork or 1/8 or 1/4 jig with a dark colored SP.

Shellridge road

you can park and walk right in. walk out to the color change drop off at the broken down pier with plastics, shrimp popping cork for good trout. If you walk south and zig zag from deeper to shallower with some cut bait, live bait or gold spoons on a mild se wind you can have a blast with redfish. just fish the pot holes.

Rockport wading

Old Port Bay Road off of Market Street to Port Bay dead end. To the right wade is firm, to the left you will encounter some mud then it hardens. Other side of 188 across from old motel on Port Bay wade left towards the duck blind and down that shoreline.
Goose Island park road past turn off to Goose Island State Park proceed around past the navigation boat ramp to the curve right before the road gets to Big Tree. Turn off on dirt/gravel and wade up towards N shoreline as far as you want to go. No....gators are not a problem there but keep an eye out just for peace of mind!
Key Allegro entrance road(main drag into Key Allegro, can't think of name) down towards the end where you can see places to pull off. The area is NOT private property on the left as it parallels the residential area, despite what some homeowners think. Wade that area for trout, proceeding down towards the channel into Little Bay.
Winter Texan hang out----Navigation Park behind Airport. Wade out to PVC pipe and up towards pier that extends out into bay. Firm shell bottom and yes, there is an alligator that cruises that area, usually in the early AM and no.....he does not eat humans.
Have fun!

Thanks all. I'll post some pics God forbid we actually catch something.
Last time I went fishing with my buddy, we were in freshwater. Upon seeing a juvenile alligator, he decided to hop out of the canoe and against better judgement go catch it with his bare hands. It was quite the site to behold. Needless to say, I'll probably steer him clear of any crocs or temptations. Lol.

Did you do any good at any of the spots listed in this thread? I'll be down there fishing Friday morning and I plan on trying a few of these spots.

No, unfortunately I cant say I did. The wind was atrocious. I was in a small tournament though and nobody really did any good though.

If I had to recommend any spot though, it would have to be back behind the Airport at Navigation Park. That was the first spot we went to and it looked really promising. Like Fulton said, head out near the PVC. Right at sunrise there was bait everywhere...but then some dolphins rolled in. Freaked me out because they popped up maybe 25 feet from me. After that, nobody I was with got any good bites.
Next place we tried was in Goose Island State Park but every spot we tried to wade was pretty muddy. There was a little bridge over a channel there by a bait shop that people were shoulder to shoulder fishing but I didn't see any catches. Looking on Google Earth you can see the deep channel that runs through the whole park so perhaps they knew something I didnt. With the wind and mud bottom, the majority of the channel was pretty much inaccessible for us. (On a side note it was amusing watching the kayakers paddling furiously into the wind and going nowhere.)

Then we tried some other random spots further south that I wouldnt reccomend. The only spot worth mentioning is off of 188 in Port Bay. The wading water was solid enough and accessible from the bridge but we were only there for a little bit as we wanted to make weigh in to see if everyone did as poorly as us 8D

Again, thanks for the tips all. Wish I had more time to try the other areas y'all recommended.
Hope this helps.
