Yes many preachers have prayed upon their congregation but that should not stop your from finding a church that is living out their faith. Also do not forget the widow who gave all she had even though it was small. Jesus was actually a carpenter by trade NOT a fisherman but a fisher of men. That being said I do enjoy fishing more than sports. And I do appreciate God's creation while fishing.

Why not have a gathering on the water, while fishing?

I've often talked with my Wife about this because I dislike going to a Church where status is more important than religion. I'd rather go out on the water with a few family/friends and discuss religion. I too feel more 'in touch' with the man upstairs when I'm sitting out on the flats enjoying everything He provides us.

I'm a believer, always will be - I just have an issue sitting next to someone at Church who is busy facebooking about how they got hammered the night before. No thanks.

If you guys want to get together and discuss the good book on any given Sunday, while wetting a line, let me know. Kayak or Boat, or wading - I'm in!(as long as I'm not out working to pay Obama's cut..)

Cowboys have their own Church, why cant fishermen? A Church doesn't need brick & mortar...just a gathering of people spreading His word.

Good topic!

Psalms 19:1 - "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork."

God's fingerprints are all around us as we are on the water, from the design and beauty of the fish, the way in which the wind blows, the tide, and the very heavens above our head; His majesty and handywork is proclaimed everyday, in every corner of the world, for His glory! Praise be to God that He has revelead himself to us through not only nature, but in our hearts (Romans 2:14-15), and ultimately in the amazing incarnation of His only begotten Son Jesus Christ through His birth, life, death, and resurrection!

God's ways are not our ways (Isaiah 55:8) and there is a way which seems right unto men, but that only leads to death (Proverbs 14:12), so we should seek the Lord while He may be found (Isaiah 55:6) and repent of our sins and believe the Gospel (Isaiah 55:7; Mark 1:15) and saturate ourselves in the Word, seeking to renew our minds by His Spirit (Ephesians 4:23).

God's glory is abundant in nature and on the water, but how much greater is His glory in the people He has redeemed through the blood of the Lamb of God? Praise be to God and thanks be unto Him who gives us life and gives us the great blessing of fishing and enjoying His workmanship!

So with all said hope you have tight lines and a full stringer. Thanks for the post.

You should all be Catholic... Then you could go to church on Saturday evening...

ps. I like Saturday mass, I leave the confessional and go straight to communion without any mess ups.

Don't want to get into the debate but there is a quote I always chuckle about:

"Religion is a person sitting in church thinking about fishing. Spirituality is a person out fishing thinking about God."

Actually there are many churches that now have services on Saturday or Sunday night. For awhile our church met at 1 pm because that was the only time we could use the facility. The pastor was always apologetic about the time but I told him I didn't mind the time slot.

My personal take on tithing is I'm suppose to tithe out of obedience to Gods word not because the church needs my money. God doesn't need my money he wants my obedience. As far as not having an extra 10% to give if a person gives 10% to Him first ( not the church) then pray about the remaining 90% you might be surprised what your finances look like in 6 months. By the way churches are full of sinners because that's where we go to hear about God.

The reason you say there's more God in fishing than in church is because the church is full of people who put other things before God. People making their passions their god and idol. Keep fishing. Nail on the head right there.

I have to admit that I'm guilty too.

Well said. When I read about the two coins in the mouth a a fish I understood that God is the provider of everything including money. We are just to be good stewards. That being said we need to be wise to where we tithe. I fully understand the frustration as I have been there in your shoes. I recently listened to a book called Radical by David Platt. Although it is not perfect it does try to address many of these issues and concerns about the church. But keep in mind there is no perfect church.
