with a good forecast and good fishing reports I canceled my new years plans and took some guys from Texas fishing on their boat saturday and sunday. saturday was tough with heavy fog all the way from the dock to 10 miles offshore. we fished our way to about 30 miles with nothing to show for it so with time running out I ran back in and caught a limit of jacks to save the day.
today with a front forcasted to move in mid-day I decided to stay close and target wahoo and jacks. we put out 2 plugs at a rig 6 mile offshore and caught a 40lb hoo on the first pass. after moving around a little we returned to that rig and doubled up landing a 50 and a 65. we got one more about 60 at a rig about a mile away.
we were trolling back to the other rig and hooked a good fish that I thought was a big wahoo but I almost s**t when a big yellow came to the surface behind the boat. a while later and alot of sweating on my part I put the steel to 130+ fish on a stretch 30. we went 5 for 5 on the hoos and the tuna.
the fog was terrible this afternoon in the pass and the lower part of the river with 0 visibility in places.
the marina was closed so we couldn't get any exact weights.
all fish were caught in 350-400ft of dirty water.
Nice trip and pics, lots of groceries. We actually caught a yellowfin on a purple diving plug at Hoover this past year, it surprised me as well.
Look like you had a good trip on hoooos with a bonus YFT. We strike out on tuna on a overnight(29th-30th Cypress Cove Venice, La) but deep drop save the day. Two boat loaded up on snowy grouper and barrel fish.
We caught two YFT on the Rapala Purple/Black trolling Hoover last Jan. also.
