Shamano Calais 200dc

Anyone have any real world experience with one? I am trying to decide whether or not to buy one. Have used one once and really liked it but they sure are proud of them.

I have the Calcutta 200DC and the reel is absolutely awesome... Got it on EBAY for about $350 a couple years back.

I honestly would not get it. Salt is electronics and magnets worst enemy. I would look at the core or the chronarch.

Total BS... the "electronics" you are talking about is an encapsulated computer chip... Ask Bantam on the Shimano board how often these computer chips fail.

I have the chronarch and it is awesome, but cant hang with the casting distance on the 200DC

Check this "review" I wrote up a little while back.... I might be going a little overboard by saying the best bay fishing reel by far... because it does depend on how you bay fish the majority of the time. I should have stated: Best all around bay fishing reel when I started this thread

that calais dc is a bad arse reel. I would fling one in the salt if I could afford it. I know someone that has been fishing the salt with one for over a year and he has had zero problems.

Directly from the Bantam, the Shimano Rep:

Bantam1

Any reel used in saltwater must be properly maitained. Salt can cause corrosion no matter what. The CTE DC has proven to be very durable in harsh saltwater environments. The reel is designed for both fresh and saltwater. The DC unit is 100% sealed with epoxy. I have never seen one come in with a corroded DC unit.
