Tying Off or Anchoring at the Rigs?

I'm getting a new (to me) 26' Sea Cat and will want to use it for both rod & reel fishing, and diving/spearing. The only places I've been here are the Texas Clipper and the Little Sara rig, all on American Diver's boat--they are an awesome outfit, BTW.

When they pull up to either location, a diver hops in and ties them off. I don't see me or my dive buddies doing that comfortably. How do the guys in private boats stay in place for diving (or fishing, for that matter)?

Rope the rig or use a rig hook. Stick with diving rigs and only wrecks that have mooring buoys on them first. Then start learning how to set and anchor to put the boat right on the spot.

Roping off to a rig can be a challenge but if you know what your doing its not bad at all. I always have me or someone else swim the rope to the rig, wrap it on a support & bring it back to me. A rig hook removes the need to get into the water. Just hook up down current & approach from down current & you should be okay.

You can pull up to a rig & idle to see which way you start drifting or the current takes you etc.

Cool,

So which wrecks out of South Padre Island have mooring buoys?

I dont know of any mooring buoys down there, but up here I know of a few. The old buck field reef, stetson rock, and the flower gardens east and west.

Another option is to either go in 2 pairs and take turns diving and watching the boat (2 up, 2 down) or bringing a non diver(or two) to mind the boat.
