Don't be surprised that after KKR cleans up the balance sheet that they roll out a small cap IPO on this investment to get their capital back. Yes, you too may be able to own a piece of Academy.

drum Academy SOLD

Sorry to say this company make its money by breakin down companys and selling them off. The times of seeing several people in different departments and getting help is possibly over. The will "sales per labor hour" the hell out of the company. #1 profit increase and expense control is PAYROLL.

Price of your favorites From Academy just took a upward $ spiral and look for some quality items to be dis-continued if mfg.don't sweeten the price to their liken

Hope you're right but I've seen this before. The "investment company" comes in strips the company to bare bones (employees) removes any product line not meeting their marketing goal, increases prices on remaining product lines and through "aggressive monitoring" determines whe the time is right to sell it off.
Your first indication that this will happen? When current Academy management "retires" from the leadership roles (consultant or otherwise). Like I said I hope you're right. We'll see

Glass Half Full Take:

Maybe they'll help Academy build a quality online presence and catalog business like Bass Pro, Cabelas.

Maybe they'll expand their in house product lines (H2O Express, Magellan, Austin) and they'll be able to offer more items like this at competitive prices.

Maybe they'll continue their expansion into the Southeast US and strengthen their product mix and purchasing power.

Maybe they'll keep their office in Katy so they'll keep their Texas roots and be able to sell the products they need.

Some of the Glass Half Empty Takes would lead to their downfall as a business. I don't think a group who drops a cool Billion on a business would come in a jack it up. They didn't get that kind of bank by making bad decisions.

Why not be optimistic? Tight Lines!

I hope that the sale makes Academy even better, but I'm not convinced that this will happen. I just hope that the new owners don't fark it up too bad!!!!

Ya you guys will really be belly aching when you can't return your 10 year old broken merchandise for an exchange or refund.

KKR's management expertise alone could double profits without you ever even realizing the change.

Change is good, embrace it, move forward.
