fishing piers on the Galveston Seawall

Does anyone know if any of the fishing piers on the Galveston Seawall have been repaired? I was looking to take my son out for some fishing during his Spring Break this week. Maybe even go to Texas City...looking to get into some Big Uglys or Bull Reds, something big.

The 61st street one is open, but the large Galveston Fishing Pier is not. It has a sign that says it will open in May...although that seems like a stretch.

dike for sure, at the very end where it makes a circle.. all the current that rips from the Houston channel and galveston channel makes some good fishing as long as you time the outgoing tide right..

Drive to the EAST end of the seawall
When you get to the end, you will see the SHIP CHANNEL
Its lined with rocks that go all the way back to the Coast Guard base.
Take some surf rods tackle and bait. Travel light as its about a 1/4 mile walk.
Once the trail goes down close to the rocks pick a place to fish.
I have fished there for many, many years for big BULL DRUM and caught more than I could count.
You will be casting into 45 ft of water with lots of current .
6 oz (minimum) spider weights are a must.
Cast up current and it might be held time it gets down current.
Its one of the best BULL DRUM spots around....... without a boat....
Park up on the hill beside the seawall blvd road on west bound side.
DO NOT leave valueables in your vehicle....
When we were out in my boat Drum fishing this weekend I saw some folks fishing there when I
drove by, so its still open to the public.....
We I was young we could drive back there.
But as always a bunch of trash left their trash back there time and time again.
So the road was blocked off....and it was then walking only.

I'm sure there are Rattlesnakes, Cotton Mouths and Coyoutes back there so BE CAREFULL.
Its not the mall....
