Big Mistake!
I just realized I have been applying the flexcoat epoxy instead of the thread finish to a butt wrap I have been working on....I was wondering why it was thicker than usual. lol!
Anyway, It really doesn't look that bad. I am assuming it may yellow or crack over time.
Has anyone made this mistake? How did your rod turn out?
I average wrapping one rod a year nowdays and I guess I am not used to selecting my finish even though I have never made this mistake before. Does age do this to you?

Mistake
Was the rod finish a two part epoxy and was it mixed? If so the only problem will be that if you didn't use NCP thread it will become tranlucent. If it was a two part epoxy and you only used one part you will have a mess to clean up and will have to start all over. You can use acetone to clean up the epoxy if the blank is not painted and alcohol if it is.
I am at the age that I am beginning to have senior moments. Now I work a little slower and make sure that I am doing it right. Sometimes that doesn't work either. It is hell getting old.

Actually, It looks great! LOL! It has dried and looks like any other. It is the 2 part epoxy that flexcoat makes for bonding components.
I am guessing if any damage, it will turn yellow in time and maybe crack. BUt, it feels flexable like the finish.
I can't believe I actually put 3 coats on that thing before realizing what I did. I noticed it was thicker and dried a lot faster.
I am 44 years old and don't concider myself a senior yet. But, I am not near as sharp as I used to be. It kind of worries me but my wife assures me I am normal.LOL! I do have a lot more on my plate nowdays so maybe it is stress.

Surfrunner
you might go back over the glue with some regular rod fiinish and that might keep it from yellowing or cracking. other than that you might be re wrapping the rod in a couple of years you should check with Artie, I am sure he could tell you what to do

Done did it! Artie told me I can do exactly what you suggested.
He said the only difference in the 2 epoxies is the finish has less hardener, but the more hardener is what makes it crack or spiderweb.

30 years ago I was using the two part epoxy mixes to finish surf rods before flex coat came out. It looked much better than the old rod varnish and color preserver.
I wish I had done more with that idea, but I was only a 15 yr old kid.
The finish looked just like the finishes of today. It would have hair line cracks where the rod flexed at each guide but worked fine. Of course that isn't what epoxy was intened for.

Hey David, missed you at sharkathon. Rich and shindle told me you were supposed to show up. I know how family stuff goes though.
THose guys were some of the nicest guys I have ever met. Rich deserved to win the redfish division. Also, I don't think I have ever met a couple of 40 year olds so rowdy! LOL!
We had a blast!

David,
Just in case you need one more person on the mako boat this winter, you know who to call.
