Ever looked into seawolf in the meantime? You have to pay, just like the pier. It gets crowded at times, but there are some good fish caught there. I caught my first trout there when I was little. Lots of flounder right now.

On previous threads it was mentioned that wheeled vehicles to carry your gear were not allowed on the 61st pier. Doe anyone know if this is true? If so, to heck with them. Any other restrictions?

I took a cart on the 61st Pier in id-summer without any problem. I don't know if they've changed anything since then but you can call them to be sure.
