Are marine cooler seat the same as regular coolers?

My question is are cooler seat cooler stronger or more durable or stronger than regular coolers?
I am thinking about replacing the original cooler type seat in my classic mako. As I looked I noticed the price of regular igloo coolers and mount and cushions you snap on them are actually cheaper than buying the unit altogether.

Go cheaper...they seem to always break after time anyways and unless you leave the boat in a saltwater area all the time or bring it back and don't wash it...I don't think you'll have a problem.

Some cooler seat/cushions have a thick plywood bottom to increase strength. This is good if someone wants to stand on the cooler for any reason. Other than that, the cooler itself is the same. Its the cushion that is different.

Kind of depends on what you are looking at. A Yeti cooler seat is extremely durable, heavy and expensive. Most use igloo 94qt or sometimes 72qt and the only difference is the cushion. As an example you can buy a 94qt marine igloo on sale somewhere but, where do you get the cushion? The cost of having the cushion made can range from $30 up to ......Personally unless you plan on being on the water for extended periods of time I would opt for inexpensive coolers and detachable cushions.

Igloo makes a regular cooler and "marine coolers". There is a difference in quality and insulation, and definitely price. The marine coolers will last longer if you take care of them. The biggest problem I see is guys leaving their cooler in the boat and sunlight. The other problem is 'death' to the cooler. That is leaving ice, water, in it. That'll crack the outer shell of the cooler in no time at all.
The snap-on Igloo cushions are worthless. The foam is too soft to offer any support; it soaks up water, and they can blow off out on the water or when towing. A high quality custom cushion, with closed cell high density foam and a composite back made/attached directly to the lid, will cost more, but last a very long time. Also, white 'marine' vinyl is best, as darker colors either fade or crack.
