dolphin Does anyone know the best lure to use for Mahi Mahi, while trolling weed lines?

Very curious to find out best lures to use for this type of fishing. Would like to find out some good methods or ideas that could help me be successful with this type of fish.....In other words, does anyone know the best way to put these fish in the box???

The Bluewater section would be a better place for this type of question and you might also try doing a search.

I am my no means an expert but these are the lures I like to use. http://www.meltontackle.com/shopping...oduct_id=10040

I also like to tip these with squid that I get from the shrimp boats.

Another good technique, once you have found a school, is to freeline some squid or shrimp on circle hooks. I use circle hooks because I want them to run and set the hook themselves. Too many times I have rip baits from the soft mouth of the fish. A final point, if you run into a school, leave a hooked fish in the water while you go after the rest. The fish wont leave the school, so if you keep one hooked and close to the boat, you have a better chance of catching the others.

Just some points ...

Blue and white islanders are pretty deadly along weed lines. At least its worked for us in the past.

thats funny I was just thinking of my honeymoon in Destin Florida. We used aluminum foil over a treble hook and caught over 50 chicken dophins. I'll never forget that trip. They will go for anything flashy. But remember to keep one in the water because they will disappear as soon as they came. They will hang around as long as you have one still in the water.
