kingfish Jamaci Beach and SLP beach east 8-02-10

I was on the water at JB at daylight fishing live shrimp under popping cork. Waded out to second sand bar. Water was a little brown but fairly clear. The water was popping all around me and i was very excited to be on the water with all the action. I started throwing to gut on outside of the sand bar I was on and no bites except 3" hardheads, my excitement begain to fade. I was about to head in and turned around and started fishing gut behind me, BAM first trout small but hope returned. Wasted half a quart of shrimp catching 20 or so small speck's. Moved to SLP east on beach, same thing. Don't get me wrong catching small speck's is still fun. Decided to try a bottom rig w/small weight with my last ten shrimp, Bam 26" Red on super light tackle, love the sound of drag ripping . The next cast BAM 18" speck, and the rest went to small various fish . Walked out the water at 12:30. Had a good day in my book more keepers always would be nice. Note to self water closer to sea wall appeared better,it was dark when I passed seawall.... Thanks Victor

My brother and I hit Jamaica beach yesterday and the water was a little brown and we didnt see any bait moving. We came in from 61st and the water looked much better so we headed back that way. We fished until about 1100. Quart of shrimp was gone in a couple of hours. Caught three keeper specs, 5 black tips including a 3.5' one which promptly got released via line cut, a few hardheads, and plenty of sand trout. Keeper specs were 16-17". Started throwing soft plastics and kept catching small specs and sand trout. Bite died down and we left. Fished the second sand bar. Nothing great but enjoyed catching at least. My brother and I got bumped b something pretty large because he was about five foot from me and got bumped at the same time I did. Saw a school of sting rays. Little gamey yesterday lol. Gonna try a different spot tomorrow in the surf when I get off work. Hope to be down there by 0730.
