Don't know what its called, but we were callin them white porgies.
Ate one last night that I caught over at the Gardens. It was bigger than the one you have pictured. Nice, firm white meat. Fried up great.

I think that one is actually a red porgie. Excellent eating.

Looks like a Wenchman (pristipomoides aquilonaris) to me. They are most commonly silver or pinkish silver and sometimes known as pink snapper. Looking at the pectoral fin it is most definitely in the 'snapper' family.

I was thinking some sort of porgy myself, but not sure. The meat did look good.
I just did a search for Red Porgy. It appears as if James Howell nailed it.

James is right, it is a Red Porgy (pargus pargus). My bad, spoke too soon. Good on ya Mr. Howell.

Without looking it up, I would go with the porgy.
As for the black margate, we have them at the jetties in Port A, I see them all the time. I don't know what they eat though because no one ever catches them?

Joe, dippin' that red snapper's fin in bleach to turn it yellow does not make keeping that little snapper legal. You should be ashamed of yourself.
