Saltwater suggestions for a rookie

So Im fairly new to saltwater, and Im sure it shows, but.....
Im planning to take the wife and kids down to surfside on the weekend of the 26th.
She has been wanting to go to the beach for a while.
Ive been to Surfside before, but that was 6 or so years back.
I just have a few questions for yall if ya can give me advice.
Can you still drive on the beach down there?
How is the fishing on the jetty for reds and trout?
Are there any other good places to fish without a boat?
I do have a boat but its just a 15 ft alumaweld with 25 merc. Do you think that is safe in the bay if I were to take it?
My oldest boy keeps wanting to hook up with a shark for CPR only, what are the possibilities of that on the jetty?
Should I just drown some bait or will the arties do me any good on the jetty?
How far in advance do I need to book a room at the surfside motel?
I know, lots of questions, but I know you guys have the answers.
Thanx
TS

How is the fishing on the jetty for reds and trout? GOOD FOR TROUT RIGHT NOW. ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT WITH LIGHTS.

Are there any other good places to fish without a boat? LOTS OF PLACES

My oldest boy keeps wanting to hook up with a shark for CPR only, what are the possibilities of that on the jetty? 50/50

Should I just drown some bait or will the arties do me any good on the jetty? DEPENDS ON HOW YOU WANT TO BE PERCEIVED. I'D FISH BAIT/GULP IF YOUR NOT A "PROFESSIONAL" ARTIE GUY.

How far in advance do I need to book a room at the surfside motel? ??, CALL THEM

I know, lots of questions, but I know you guys have the answers.

GOOD LUCK

Surfside is a very laid back little town. For fish I'd throw bait at the jetty's unless your very good with the arti's. The boat is borderline on size but it really depends on the weather. I wouldn't take it into the ocean but if the weather is nice and no wind then you should be ok in Christmas Bay, just watch the wind and waves. If you sink, just stand up Christmas Bay is pretty shallow. Lots of places to fish. If the beach water is calm, I'd fish the beach with arti's for trout and reds. Go eat at Kitty's Purple Cow, good food.

Boat is fine for Christmas bay, Oyster, and Bastrop bay (also, greens and Karakawa on the intercoastal out of either FatBoys or Sea Isel in winds less than 12 knts. You can catch lots' of reds in those bays. Texas has lots of storms that can come up and that would not be fun or safe n that rig. As always you are solely responsible for navigating and operating your rig on the water.

The main thing I would start looking for were ever you fish is bait, birds, and slicks... that's how you'll find the fish.

Our DVD - find the fish catch a limit (money back guarantee) shows video of what the guides look for to find trout on the water, and incredible graphics to help you understand how to work trout slicks in any wind or tide condition to help you find the fish...feeding fish and schools of them at that.
