Bluecat from our stock tank

We had a family day out at our little place near Victoria back in May, and I just got the pictures developed. I scanned a pic of the bluecat I caught. We used big minnows for bait under a cork. It went 21 pounds. This is one of the first fish we put in the tank over 15 years ago. Our tank has a nice clay bottom, so these big fish still taste great. We caught two 14" crappie to go along with her. There are lots of crappie in the tank now, and it's not uncommon to catch several over 14" long. Dad caught one 16" a couple years back.

Enjoy!

Nice fish. Did you stock it with small fish... like from a fish hatchery... or did you just transplant fish caught on rod and reel? I bet that blue liked the taste of crappies too :-)

stock

We always stock our tanks with fingerlings. The only large fish we've added are some Florida Bass that my dad's friend gave us. We caught them and transferred them to our tank. The crappie got in during floods. We didn't stock them.
