Carolina Skiff 1650 Thoughts
2cool Team
After much consideration and shaving of the budget for about the last time I have decided on the Carolina Skiff J1650 and would like some input from you guys on this hull. I fish the back lakes of Galveston and all the way to Port Mansfield and due to economic viability and the like this was my solution to get back on the water. I am currently waiting on final prices from several dealers. I am gonna set it up with a Johnson/Yamaha 25 maybe a 35 2 stroke. The boat will be nothing more than a small front deck, console and poling platform along with a Manuel Jackplate and Smart Tabs. If anyone has this model or experiance in one please chime in...
Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy New Year...
God Bless

Scratch the jack plate and polling platform
Spend the extra money on a bigger motor
You should really consider a used CS, as I see a ton of that size used for sale
What you will find is you will want more hull, down the road.....and not droping the money now on a new one will help with your upgrad down the road.
the 2180 DLX is my favorite with a 90 or 115
Go with what ever motor makes you happy ....
Try to get hatches on the front deck, storage is an issue
Remember, keep it simple ....
Get a see thru gas tank under the console, and you really only need a Tach and maybe a water pressure gauage.
I have owned two CS and have toured the factory
Yes they can be wet .... if you go fast in choppy water .... very few boat are not.
They are the best boat for somone on a budget

I have had the 1650 dlx. Now I own a 1780 dlx and I love it. Make sure that you get more than a 25 hp for that boat. I had a 40 yamaha on my boat and it was good. Great little boat that is tough. Very light and easy to move around. I just wanted one that was a little wider.

You could get a used hull, and a new motor, the hulls are basicly all the same. But its your money, do as you wish.

Got a used j16 (1999) a couple of months ago. Have been working on it to get it up to level I want. It came with a 30 johnson that i had planned on replacing with new 40 4 stroke. Just my luck the johnson is in perfect condition, so I'm stuck with it until it has a major problem. I have taken it out and a 40 would really be nice. It seems to struggle a little with the 30. Spend some more money.

man I agree scratch the polling platform, those boats arent real quiet and don't track very well. Look at the new smaller e-tecs they will make you smile even after you see the bill. Also keep in mind that hull is real narrow so certain people are gonna pitch it real hard. I understand your situation I have had many budget boats and I loved them all.

here is my budget CS, A little elbow grease, and it is now fine for me. This is a true budget, i have a total of around 500.00 invested in the whole rig, and it is water ready.
