Yamaha 150 ox66 surging ??

I've got a 01 yamaha 150 ox66 on my sportfish 192 and everytime the nose of the boat comes up (powering out of the hole or rough chop) the motor wants to bog down until the nose comes back down then it'll surge and try to take off again until the nose comes back up (surging). But if I slowly get on the gas and take off slow to get onto plane in calmer waters it's ok and runs fine. Does anyone have an idea what this may be? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like bad gas to me. Has the boat been sitting over a month or did it start acting up at the last fill up. Had the same prob. on my evin. choppy water made it slosh around and cause a surge. Sucked out 30 gallons put it in the suburban and refilled no problems since.

1) Go in for a carburetor cleaning
2) start running super unleaded gas
3) buy Stabil

That should be all you need. And never run super unleaded in an outboard that is a no no.

This engine is fuel injected right? It sounds like a fuel delivery problem. I recommend that you take it to the Yamaha dealer and have them take care of it.

Squeeze the fuel primer bulb several times while the engine is running at idle. If you have an rpm change or motor trying to stall while doing so, the likely failure is the diaphragm lift pumps. E-10 attacks the rubber bladder diaphragm. Causing the motor to starve for gasoline. It will still be receiving the proper dose of 2-stroke oil causing the motor to smoke more than usual.

The lift pumps cost about $33 each. Not sure of your motor model but you will have either 2 or 3 of these pumps located on the port side of the engine directly above the oil injection pump. They have an aluminum cover with YAMAHA embossed and are a little larger than a match box.

CajunBob,
If you run the sea foams, etc. in your fuel, there's really not much difference in that and the superunleaded gas.
And if I'm missing something here not to proud to admit it.
My motor guy in Rockport is who suggested this and have been running that fuel for over a year now.

motors where designed to run on 87 octane not 91 . cannot burn all of the fuel not enough compression.
