Went out around 8:00 this morning and tried a spot close to the house. It was much colder than I thought and after catching only a couple of dink trout in 30 minutes, I retreated to the house for a hot cup of coffee and to rethink the morning. Around 11:00 it warmed up a bit, so I tried again. This time I went to a spot a couple miles south and put on the waders. I was fishing a soft mud bottom gut close to deep water. Right off the bat I caught a nice slot red on a 4" rootbeer soft plastic fished real slow. Next cast I caught a smaller red around 19". Then next cast, a 29" red. Then nothing for about 30 minutes. Then I caught 2 more slots on 3 consecutive casts. I guess there were schools of reds moving through the gut because each time I would catch 1, I would catch (or miss) another on the next few casts.
Ended up catching 7 reds, 4 slots, 1 oversize and 2 undersize along with a few small trout. Then just as I was about to call it quits, I set the hook into what I thought was a nice red and it turned out to be this 29", 7 lb, 14 oz big girl;
