When Brian Nessen called me late Friday and told me that his hunting trip had been cancelled for Saturday, I jumped at the chance to take him and his 10 year old son, Hunter fishing. They met me at Louis at 6:30am, I already had the boat in the water and we headed off to my flounder hole. This was my third fishing trip with them and I was hoping Hunter could really catch some keeper fish this time. On the last trip, I knew it hurt him when we release the 19" red he caught.
Shortly I hung into a huge flounder on my red and white bug eyed chicken lure. I fish it tandem rig style. The flounder put up a heck of fight at the net and took off like a missle and my line sounded like a 22 as the line snapped. I re-rigged and was getting over losing the fish. Meanwhile, Hunter was fishing with a mud minnow and I heard his drag screaming. I looked up and Hunter was in the fight of a lifetime. He too, had a huge flounder on his line. I ran with the net to his aid, telling him just take your time, just take your time, you got him, Hunter, just take your time. As the flounder came to the top, it was huge, at least 22", but my line I had just thrown out was obviously tangled in Hunter's line, there was bug eyed chickens everywhere. I finally realized my rod was not moving though, thus my line could not be tangled in Hunter's line.
Hunter had just caught the flounder I had just lost and my bug eyed chicken lure was still in the flounder's mouth. I nettted the flounder, we both screamed and high fived each other as his Dad came running to pour congratulations upon his 10 year old son. Wow!!!
