Price per Lb???

Has anyone ever took at the end off the season and added cost to see just what they ended up paying for a Lb of venison? I have always started to do it and after the first couple of months of starting to prepare I lost track. I know some would be more than others but just say on an average for a $1k lease fee with 3 blinds and feeders. I am in the stands right now,2cool huh!

Probably about the same for a lb. of fresh fish fillets. Thats something we just don't talk about.

Yes I have and you probably won't believe this,this was at lease near Rock Springs and it was year 1980.

I kept track of every possible thing,lease costs,telephone calls to and from,gas and oil to and from ,grocerys,drinks,shells,shooting range ,processing,work days ,stands, feeders,corn etc I mean every thing was tabulated.

I shot 4 deer that year two bucks and two does(mine and sons),dressed out meat was $10.49/pound,its probably $20 today.I'll bet its closer to $30 even

Its like fishing ,if you put a price on it ,you don't do it.

If you live or work in or around a city like Houston the $30 a lb would be much cheaper than the psychiatrist bills to maintain you sanity.

I have lived in the country since 1991. I got over deer hunting years ago when we started sharing the same vegitable garden. But I might start again if the nice eight point keeps head butting my bird feeder.

It's probably comparable to spending thousands on fishing tackle, $30,000 (or more) for a boat, another $1000 for fuel, ice and bait and going fishing. Actually, I think fishing is more.

So, to answer your question....absolutely not. Somehow that takes all the fun out of it.
