How about a slot limit for trout???

A buddy and I were talking about how to get the trophy trout population up. Here is what we came up with. A slot limit from 15 to 25 inches. Allow 1 trout per day over 30 inches. No trout can be taken between 25 and 30 inches. What do you think about this. I am curious about how you trout guys feel about this.

I like the thought of the slot for trout. I also think reducing the limit to five would be great up and down the coast. I don't have a real problem with one fish over thirty but I think we should do like we do with redfish and tag the fish and have the opportunity to get another tag after the first one. Although it is not like you go out everyday and catch a 30" fish.

I think the conservative action of CPR is catching on among trout anglers but in the same fashion we have to remember that those fish that we are CPRing have to come from populations of smaller fish and if we keep all of those then the large trout population will suffer in the future. As the coastal angling family grows it becomes simple supply and demand and at some point we will reach that and then we will not like the following effects.

Just my opinion.

your only allowed 1 over 25 as it stands now. you want to really make a change.
5 fish ,13 to 23 , 1 over 23.

If people are worried about trout, they should leave them alone. Fish for something else. And release any trout you catch. They're not swimming sandwiches.

I caught and released a 25 today. I don't keep trout very often. I never keep trout over about 22 inches,

For some people anything over 25" is a trophy. Now I can see a tag for 30" or bigger if you plan on getting a skin mount.I say leave the trout regs alone.

As for myself, anything over 23" lives...If I hang one > 29" it will be quickly boga'd, measured, & released. The replicas are prettier & certainly have a longer shelf life. As for TPWD regulations...I recommend that the state restrict fishing within 1000 yards of the 12 spots I recommend for everyone except yours truly...

I think if they would spend more money on habitat and planting grass it would do more for the fish than lowering limits. You can keep twice as many fish in LA versus TX and they don't seem to have a problem.

this is all fine and dandy for US who observe the law , what about those who cant even read the information or speak English or care about our laws ?

we went fishing yesterday and we saw a sight that really p---ed me off, a few baby reds and other small fish dead on the shore line , some one didnt bother to put em back in the water after being caught !
