Old propane bottles
Have a couple of old propane bottles off the deerlease trailer fellow at the hardware store said they were too old to fill. Can these be updated or do they just have to be replaced? Trailer is a '94 as are the bottles.
Thanks,
Rick

Trade em in
Just take them to WalMart and trade for refills in new bottles. The propane company has to retest their own outdated bottles anyway so no harm IMO.

If they dont have the new valves itll be tough getting someone to fill them. Most likely be easier to get new ones.

x3 I've never seen one of them check to see what kind of valve you have on a trade-in... If the handle is the "triangle" shape, it's the new style...that is correct isn't it? Anyone?

Take them to Home Depot and swap them for 2 that are full. You don't even have to go inside. Then you have 2 good bottles.

walmart has checked mine in the past if you get a "knowledgeable" cashier. They have a surcharge if you have an old tank.

I will tell y'all that you should not risk filling up an expired tank. I made that mistake once. I was enjoying a great couple days at my old camp in La. It was a pretty tense moment when I woke to a squeeking sound to find ice had formed all over the tank. It had a crack in it. With visions of JAWS dancing in my head, I very CAREFULLY lifted it up and brought it out to the dock. The tide was going out, so I put it so that it was almost teetering on the edge of the dock, and I grabbed some 2X4 scraps. I threw the scraps at it from around the corner of the camp and knocked it into the water. I kept waiting for a big explosion. When it got about 100 yards down the bayou, I grabbed my M1 and popped it on the second shot. I got lucky and hit the valve. The sucker went WOOOOOOOSH and danced around for what seemed like several minutes. When it was done, I picked it up and we threw it in the trash. Since then, I've seen Mythbusters and they busted the blowing up scuba tank myth, but I have to wonder about propane. I'm lucky the old camp was so well ventilated or I'd have died in my sleep from the leaking gas. I'm glad I'm a non-smoker too.

I traded one the other day at Brookshire Brothers and they were on sale for $16.99. Fiesta has them for $18.99. a propane company can recertify them.
