If the veggies come up to the surface then use a frog and a heavy jig to punch through the stuff. If it just below the surface you can use shallow running cranks. If it is grass beds in like 4 ft try some rattle traps.

Try a slugo or bass assassin rainbow trout pattern
Spinner bait just above the grass can be deadly
Let us know how it works out

I like worms...green pumpkin with a slider hook....and that depends on how thick the veg. is. but a worm working its way thur the grass generally get a bite or two....plus its less incline to get hung up.

I like the wacky worm if the stuff does not come all of the way to the top, or has ledges to it, and like FISHNNUT said a spinner worked just above it is a great technique.

I used to have a deer lease with a small lake like that. Three baits were very good 3. Tiki Shaddick rigged weightless on 5/0 worm hook if you have some open water. 2. Ribbit frog or Horney toad on frog hook if you have no open water. and my no. 1 bait is a watermelon chartruese ringfry (lake fork tackle), weightless on small worm hook, tossed in to open pockets. The ringfry is heavy enough to cast with a baicaster and will give the near parallel dead fall even with the worm hook in one end. All the above are nearly weedless.

I second the Pop-R. Those things are mean in a heavily-weeded pond/lake. Also, you might want to try a buzz bait. Those are good too for a hungry bass. White has always been my favorite color.

Those buzz baits are fantastic, I remember when they came out, and we were fishing SAM Rayburn. A friend of mine had just bought one and we waded out, I was casting the H&H white spinner bait and making it run on top. I caught a lot of bass, but my friend could not get 2 feet out of that buzz bait before a big(4lbs or better) bass would attack it hard!
If the bass have not seen one they go crazy over it. It is pretty versatile too, you can run it slow and just make it buzz once every now and then let it sink in between buzzes, or make it wild and buzz it back with short hard strokes. I have had great luck in the dead of winter in very cold water in small lakes.
